Kenneth Cope, the actor known for his roles in Carry On and Coronation Street, has died at the age of 93.

Carry On and Coronation Street star Kenneth Cope died at the age of 93 at his home in Buckinghamshire on Tuesday, January 24, 2023.

The sad news was announced by his agent, who said in a statement: "We are sad to announce that the actor Kenneth Cope passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2023. He was 93 years old. The beloved actor passed away at his home in Buckinghamshire, surrounded by his loving family.

Tributes paid to beloved actor

Cope's death has been met with an outpouring of tributes from friends, colleagues, and fans.

Fellow actor Tim Brooke-Taylor tweeted: "So sad to hear that Kenneth Cope has died. He was a wonderful actor and a lovely man. We worked together on several Carry On films and I always enjoyed his company. He will be greatly missed."

Barbara Windsor's widower, Scott Mitchell, added: "So sad to hear that Kenneth Cope has passed away. He was a lovely man and a great actor. Barbara and I had the pleasure of working with him on several occasions and he was always a joy to be around. He will be greatly missed."

Cope's career spanned over six decades, during which time he appeared in over 100 films and television shows.

He was best known for his roles as Jed Cooper in Coronation Street and Sergeant Major Williams in the Carry On films.

Cope was also a successful theatre actor, appearing in productions such as The Mousetrap and The Birthday Party.

He was awarded the OBE in 2002 for his services to drama.

Cope was married to actress Sally Geeson from 1973 until their divorce in 1978.

He is survived by his son, Jonathan.
